R.B. KITAJ - THE CONTROVERSIAL ARTIST

Born in the United States of America, his mother was the American-born daughter of Russian-Jewish immigrants. Kitaj settled in England, he staged his first solo exhibition at Marlborough Fine Art in London in 1963, entitled "Pictures with commentary, Pictures without commentary", in which text included in the pictures and the accompanying catalogue referred to a range of literature and history.
Join us to find out more from our speaker Patricia Utermohlen who received her first degree from London University where she specialised in the Renaissance. She enrolled for the MA programme at the Univerity of Massachusetts, this time specialising in Modernism and obtaining a degree in 1974.
Returning to England she was engaged to teach the history of art for the nineteenth and twentieth century at Syracuse University London programme and continues to teach there.
She currently runs her own Fine Arts programme, at her studio in Little Venice, devoted to art exhibitions currently being shown in London.
